When people call, they always ask "what are you doing"... What do u say?

Okay, it's annoying to me when people call me and say, "what are you doing". There are certain people who I know will always say that. I know that they don't really care. So what's the point in asking? Does this annoy you too? And if so, what do you usually respond with?

When I get phone calls and the asker says "What are you doing?"
I say "I am talking to you on the phone." Obvious.

My friends are asking because they don't want to interrupt dinner or anything else that may be important to me. If they are interrupting, I tell them I'll call them back and give them a time that is convenient for both of us.

I don't get that many calls, so it's really not all that annoying.

but some people ask what you're doing so they can invite themselves along too...if they annoy you, you could try screening your calls...or if you know they don't care, say "nothing" so they can hurry up and tell you all about what it is that they called to tell you. and if it's to invite you to do something you don't care to do, then just say, well, later I've gotta clean my apt b/c i've been doin nothing all day! lol...

I usually give them a literal answer.
Sometimes I ask people that if I want them to do something for me, but I don't want to interrupt them.

Usually I tell them what I am up to....but if i'm in a mood i'll tell them "Well, I was in the middle of rubbing one out...you know, playing with the monkey...." Or "Well I'm on the toilet dropping the big one....what do ya want?"
