I bet if you hold down the shift key & pressed 2, you will get the @sign. I bet the @ key shows as " when typed.
You need to change your keyboard settings to English (United Kingdom) rather than English (US).

For XP
Go to control panel, Regional & Language Options, Regional Options tab: Set format to English (United Kingdom) & Location to United Kingdom.
Under Languages tab: Click Details button->settings tab->default input language set to English United Kingdom
Installed services, click "add button" choose Input & keyboard as English United Kingdom.

For Win 2000
Control Panel. ->Keyboard.-> Input Locales Tab. ->Add button->choose English United Kingdom & set this as default.

Hope this helps

your keyboard is set up wrong, either your american with uk keyboard setup or your uk with american keyboard setup.

If your @ sign is near to the enter key then try pressing shift and 2 at the same time (not the 2 on the numpad, the one above Q and W)

If the @ sign is above your number 2 then press shift and the ' key

Yes as others have suggested your computer language is in the wrong setting, you are using Enlish, American.
To do an @ press and hold Shift + 2, to get " press and hold Shift and press '
To change it back to normal go to the language bar at the bottom panel, if its not there right click and click properties and then "Display language bar" if not still, then go to control panel and keyboard.

You have probably got your keyboard set as American. Try holding down the Caps key and hitting the 2 key.
