On January 27 (Saturday) there was a ring around the moon. It seemed to be growing more wide every couple minutes. Then, a streak of light (or smoke) shot across the moon and ring. The light moved to the left slowly, and eventually disapeared once it reached the edge of the ring. Who knows what happened? If you didn't see it, and read my observations, what do you think happened?

The ring was just a halo, kind of like a rainbow around the moon. This happens with bright moons when the sky has a lot of moisture in it. If it's really dense you can get a really huge halo.
The streak of light may have been a meteor. It sounds like you saw a good one too, and lucky that it passed right in front of the moon.

I did see the Moon but no ring or streak of light. Rings around the Moon (and Sun too) are pretty common and are due to local weather conditions, so even though one was visible from your location there may not have been one visible from another location. They are kind of like rainbows that way. They are caused by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. The streak of light or smoke moving slowly was probably a contrail from a high flying airliner.

the ring is caused by moisture in the upper atmosphere and the streak was probaly a contrail from a jet, happens more often then you would think.

I know something was going on with the moon, but I did not see it and I don't know exactly what was going on.

i thinks it,s called the dogs collar. or something to do with a dog. others calls it a moons rainbow

i seen it it looked so pritty i loved it i wont ever forget wat it looked like....it mad me feel so happy i dont no y it disapeared or an idea y but all i no is it was so loving n it made me cry
