Large agricultural companies have begun treating vegetables with radiation to improve their size and quality and to increase the lenght of time they can be stored. Dave has a theory that eating irradiated vegtables could cause memory loss, His friend disaggrees saying that if irradiated vegtables were dangerous, the food and drug adminstarion would require it to have warning lables.

The factors the researcher controls or manipulates are called the independent variable, and the measure used to observe the effect (if any) of the independent variables are called the dependent variable.
Here vegetables are manipulated and the effect from eating that vegetables is the dependent variable.
