Pull up just beyond the car you're parking behind. Stick it in reverse. When you're dead level with the other car, give it a turn and a half left, you're now pointing towards the kerb going backwards. When your seating position is level with the back of the other car, straighten the wheel, i.e. one and a half turns right. Once the front of your car has just cleared the back of the other car, give it one and a half turns right. This should bring you in perfectly. Once you're straight, straighten the steering. Award yourself a gold star for being such a good driver!
Or if this isn't a driving test related question, just do what they do in France. Back CRUNCH, Forwards CRUNCH etc. They're called BUMPERS for a reason you know!

Well, there are two types of parallel parking;

1) Backing up into the parking spot, then adjusting.
2) Driving into the parking spot, then adjusting.

In #1, you'd have to drive up a little bit, farther than the parking spot, (to gage where, your car should be beside the next parked car. Then back up a bit, but not into the spot to clear the car next to you, then turn the wheel clockwise and apply the gas slowly. Turn the wheel so that you don't hit the car next to you, but at the same time, make sure you get into the parking spot so you don't have to do it over again.

In #2, you just drive up into the parking spot, flip the car into reverse, then turn the wheel clockwise, apply gas and just adjust.

Or...if you have a couple thousands buy that new Lexus(?) that parallel parks itself.

park next to the car and begin to reverse until your wing mirror is in line with the the car you were next to,
then turn the wheel 180 degrees in the direction tour intending to reverse and reverse until the kurb disappears out of view of the rear window
then straighten the wheels count 2 and turn the opposite way 180 degrees then when you think your parallel stop =P

This will be a little hard to explain, I think... but it always works for me...
Pull up right beside the car you plan to park behind.
Start cutting the wheel toward the curb and watch the car behind you in the rear-view mirror.
When the car behind you is in the middle of your rear-view mirror, start cutting the wheel in the other direction. This should help you slip in evenly.

And to think, most of these people have a license to drive on the road. Frightening, isn't it?
