actress Rimi Sen when speaking about her film Golmaal stated: "“I play a sweet and beautiful girl in the film. The best thing that I like about the film is that though it has four heroes, I am the only heroine. Rohit Shetty is amazing as a director. He can make even a black African look pretty”.

No-one freaked out about that statement!!

When I mean freak out I mean this was not exactly widely reported in the media!

P.S Even if it was widely reported I doubt that Black people would have responded by burning effigies of this Indian actress.

Soemone has evidently missed the point! How is it that Indian society can burn effigies of British people claiming racism when they themselves are racist!!!

2007-01-28 08:19:38 · update #4

Would have to say that Indian society's absolute preoccupation with skin colour does make them more racist.

I have noticed that in Indian society, they are still preoccupied with being superior and smarter -well- to the entire world , I think.

as far as the racist remark , we can pretty much hear that every were on this particular God forsaken Globe! - I find it amusing that She said it out loud in global public which brings me great pleasure to know that I am not wrong on how people in India feel about the rest of the world! - remember they still have casts and treat people in lower casts like slaves -- no thank you ,that doesn't make them prettier , smarter or better. that just makes them bigot , nasty and stuck up.

I am aware of the famous Bollywood Industry. I stumbled on a bollywood movie some years ago and was trying to find it in block buster, it was Karma sutra, a love affair, great movie, and I love ASOKA! Bollywood movies are so unique, and have beautiful, bold colors! The movie style is so different than of hollywood. I like different, I can appreciate other styles of acting and singing, change is always nice to have!

Some Indians are racist. Some British are racist. Some Eskimos are probably racist.

Most aren't. Most want to make their displeasure known when people come out with racist nonsense. Obviously, people are going to protest more when their ethnic group is on the wrong end of racism.

I echo Mr Sceptic's statements. Some people in every single country are racist. In the Third World, you'll find more entrenched racism generally. They have bigger fish to fry, like mass starvation, poverty, crippling wars, etc.

We in the First World are socially better than the Third World generally, but then we ought to be. We are stinking rich.
