At purevolume and youtube, you can generally listen to the song. Songs are 99cents each, but at certain websites you can pay a monthly fee and download as much music as you want.

Most music is going to be legally downloaded unless you buy the tune. The exception would be free downloads directly from a band's website (which means they have given permission for you to use the tune for free), OR public domain music. Songs move into the public domain 50 years after the artist dies.

If there is music that you really want, you should go buy it. The artists who make the music deserve to be paid for it. Just like you work for a living, music artists make music for a living. Sales of music has plummeted over the years and it is prompting music artists to consider not making music. The same goes for movies. We have all done it, but we should be thinking a little more clear on it--we are stealing from the mouths of their children.
