I have heard that PC hard drives have region settings is this true? as I want to take my external HD with me to Italy.

No. Your external HD will work in Italy as long as you
have a compatible power source (if required).

Depends on what mean by regional setting. Europe uses a 50hz power supply and the US uses a 60hz power supply. If you want to use your equipment in Europe you must use a power converter. Regional setting on the hard drive itself stand for time zones which can be changed.

Only DVD s have region settings. Its not HDs. So, the problem is solved. They work ubiquitiously.
