I cannot seem to get rid of the film on my hardwood floors, it is very frustrating! I have tried Armstrong for Hardwood Floors, Swiffer Wet Jet and Murphy's Oil Soap. I was most displeased with Murphy's because I spent so much time on my hands and knees without the results I wanted. Any suggestions?

I clean all my wood and ceramic floors w/ vinegar & water (distributor recommended this) If it's a grease build up, this will cut it. Hope this helps

Whatever you try, use it on a small area and then wait a while to see the results. Washing floors is hard work!

If the film is wax or grease, it will come off with ammonia or with a strong solution of something like Mr. Clean or Formula 409. It's okay to use these on your finished wood floor -- just don't let water soak between the boards or puddle on the surface.

Paint thinner will also remove a lot of substances that cloud a finish, and it definitely won't hurt the wood in any way. But you have to use a lot of ventilation. (I guess you'd do that with ammonia, too!) I'm told by a harwood floor finishing guy that Murphy's can actually cause a film over time, but man, you'd have to use a lot of it to make a floor cloudy.

A little Mr. Clean and a lot of hot water, ring the mop out well and go over it with a cloth to dry it right away. Once you remove the film, you can use a little Murphy's to bring a little shine to it, but only about once a month. The rest of the time I use a mild soap to was the hardwood.

NO! Don't use paint thinner nor any other solvents! It will break down the poly!

Try the vinegar and water, but be sure to "damp mop". Once you have it broken down, don't mop so often. Use a cleaner specific for hardwood floors - not Murphy's (it will haze over within one or two moppings).

unfortunately you used murpy's oil soap on your floor.
from my experience, you will not get that off of your floor
by cleaning it. you will need to sand it down to the bare
wood. sounds like im jumping ahead of myself but i am
not.. chances are, even if you just buff the floor, it still
will not come out..
good luck
