I'm working at a different office today, and my coworker's desk is right beside mine. He sits there and watches what I do, and asks why I do it the "hard way" when I could do it easier if i did it HIS way.
I'll be sitting here talking to clients, and he'll butt in and try to "correct" what I say, as if I'm an idiot who needs his constant supervision.

I'm 'bout ready to throw my stapler at his big, fat, stupid head.....

At the risk of making an enemy that sits right next to you at work which might create a hostile environment, you need to get verbal with this guy.

Granted, right now he is just annoying and you most likely are hesitant to create animosity. But people like this guy only get worse if you don't confront them.

Be strategic. Perhaps you can discourage him with clever answers. He is most likely the "ego" type and is easily discouraged if he fears he will be put down. Try politely saying, "Excuse me, I am with a client right now and I would appreciate it if you didn't interrupt."

That sends the message you are in control, not controllable which is what he likes. People he can lord over and intimidate. When he tries to tell you you are doing it the hard way, don't be too full of pride to examine his system, maybe he is right and his way is simpler. But then after considering it his way, you have the perfect right to say, "That just doesn't work well with me but thanks for trying to help." By at least looking at "his way" you give credibility to your answer.

He might actually be trying to impress you so don't be too surprised if he seems hurt that you don't sit on his lap. HEH HEH HEH.......

If that really is you in the photo/avatar he might have a crush on you which would explain why he watches you all day???

Good luck, be brave, be imaginative, be on top of it.

lol that's funny i am sure he doesn't mean to be an a.s.s i'm sure he is just trying to help. or maybe he likes you and it's a way of showing you he knows his stuff and if you need help he is always there. maybe he just thinks you weren't very good with your client so he needs to step in and help you every now and then. just tell him that you got it say thank you for his help and say you appreciate it but you would like to do it on your own. don't say "you stupid fat tub of lard if you butt in one more time i'm gonna take that stapler and shove it down your fat doubble chinned throat".

I dont work at an office but I know what you mean. They think their way is the only way when there is other apparent ways to do it. He's probably just too proud to accept the fact that a woman can do a job a different way than the way he does it.

He's just desperately clutching at straws in a feeble attempt to garner your interest. He's probably intimidated by you.

Tell him to mind his own f-ing business. If he doesn't, throw that stapler!

Or start telling him how to do HIS job.

I think everybody has one of those around.
Sometimes, when he can't watch how you do something, just agree and he will leave you alone. Then you do it the way you always do.
It always worked for me.
