The funny thing is, people DID try to put the blame on her husband. You wouldn't believe how many idiots I heard arguing that he "shouldn't have left them alone with her." Um, hello? He wasn't the one who killed them in cold blood! Plus he left her alone with them for THIRTY MINUTES because he had to leave for work. All it does is prove how calculating and evil his wife really was; she had it planned out from the start.
But no matter how evil the woman, there's always a bunch of female apologists looking to pin it on a man somehow.

I think that yes, if Andrea Yates had been the father instead of the mother there would have definitely been a harsh prison sentence and probably the death penalty. Women have a variety of things they can try to lean on in court that men don't: post-partum depression, "hormonal issues", etc. Plus, men are traditionally given harsher penalties than women because women aren't seen as "hard" criminals. The sad part is that juries and judges tend to actually buy into this nonsense.

Modern feminism has perversed modern politics. Feminists paint this picture that men cause all the suffering in the world(which is mostly true). However, they deny women the responsibilty of standing up to injustice because apparently men 'oppress' them.
This would probably be worse if the woman had killed her husband. Then feminists would probably blame his death on him.
Most people don't realise that the mojorityt of child abuse is perpetrated by mothers. Women are seen as innocent whereas men are presumed guilty.
Women like this shouldn't be allowed to have children. I can only hope she never has a chance to inflict such atrocities on any other innocent children.

It's similar to the female teacher sleeping with her student. If she was a male, she'd get a life-sentence or worse. I'm just really tired of criminals committing such sick crimes and then copping out on an insanity plea. I don't doubt she's a lunatic, but we can't just forego punishment because everyone wants to say that they're mentally ill. You're an adult. You have to deal with the consequences.

You can't make a comparison because - if I remember correctly - there was talk that post-partum psychosis could have played a role. Regardless, it was established that she's a nut.
Also, the level and type of mental illness required for a mother to kill her own children are not necessarily something that can be compared to a man's murdering even his own children. There can be different things in play in different types of murder.
I, personally, would have loved to see her in prison forever; but I don't think you can imagine how things would have been if she were a man because if she were a man she wouldn't have been a mother, and the very nature of the murders would have been different.
