the engine has the comp cams 270H Magnum stick as well as compcams head kit with springs. There are maybe 35ooo miles on it. how can you tell if locks and keepers should be changed?

That's a pretty aggressive cam for a 289, if you've got some compression it will thump. It is always a good idea to replace your locks. Think of it as cheap insurance. Better to spend a little on locks than replace a motor because of a dropped valve.

yes u do// dont try another ull b doing same job again in 2 months except next time ull b adding the expense of all new valves to it

I'm thinking with 35000 miles on that bump stick, you need new guides anyways
