Sport appeals to the more primative aspects of the brain. There is a territoriality in all of us, and the need to divide into smaller groups or communities. What comes next is the desire to prove that your community is better than the others. In the good old days this would be done by fighting, battles etc, but now we have sport and people chose teams or particular sportsmen/women to support. To some people, the team pretty much takes over their life.

Ive often wondered this myself. And even more puzzling is why people get into college level sports? College football and basketball. How can you have team loyalty when in 2-3 years its gonna be a totally different team, due to the fact that most of the players have graduated and moved on? I guess they are cheering for the school and not the players-thats kinda dumb.
Beats me.

I don't know. Like for football games, most men seem so into the people running around with a ball and doing the same things OVER and OVER. Personally, I think it's their excuse to drink beer or have a good time with friends or have an excuse from having to do chores. And girls only pretend to like football to fit in with the guys.

Most of us can no longer play sports, so it is a way to experience the excitement. It is hard to get into sports if you don't understand the sport and if you really can't get behind a team. If you had a team to cheer for you might be able to experience the feeling. You win and lose with your team as if you were a player!!

I have no idea. I am a girl, and find no interest in watching sports besides the fact that I do like to watch the motocross races.

Men like competition and pitting their skills against one another. Trouble is most men are lazy and so watch sports and use their teams to do it for them and argue about it in the pub.
Not liking sports all means you might be a homo, just a theory.
