i am trying to understand this question and hope someone can guide.
A color image uses 16 bits to represent a pixel. What is the max number of different colors that can be represented?

I am not sure how to answer this question couldnt come up with an answer by reading the book i have. Anyone can guide or help me with it would appreciate it.

so why do we use 2 to the power of x? What the secret of the number 2 and we didnt use any other number? Thanks

Just 2^16 and you got your answer, in x-bit per pixel image, the total colour is always 2^x

Because we have two bits either 0 or 1.
