The tiger has sharp canines that tear meat from bones and very sharp, hooked claws to grab the prey and kill.

The rat does not have canines.
It only has incisors and molars
The rat claws are thinner and straighter.

In contrast, the tiger has four long muscular legs
while the rat has short pudgy legs which are not very flexible in a fight.

In face to face combat, the tiger would definitely overpower and shred the rat to pieces.

Smaller animals tend to be stronger for their size than larger animals. Pound for pound a small dog is stronger than a big dog. So, if you scaled a rat to the size of a tiger it might be far stronger, on the other hand, it doesn't have the same level of weaponry available. But lets face it, if you were a self respecting tiger, and found yourself faced with a nine foot long rat, wouldn't that just scare the bejesus out of you?

The tiger may kill the rat but if the rat bit it as well it could be fatel for the tiger. The rats mouth is full of filth and bacteria because of the carrion and rotten food it eats.

The tiger. It's daily life is savage murder to get nutrients, where rats no matter how big can forever stay alive from eating ANYTHING! They have no knowledge of hunting down there food, or savage murder. On a usual basis they only fight with there own kind. Unless they are being eaten.

I would prefer to pit the rat against a liger (a tiger/lion cross). That would be much more interesting. Ligers are cool.
