What does the capacity of the car measure? I assume it is the sum total in volume of the cylinders when the pistons are fully in downstroke. This would mean that each cylinder would have a volume of 0.4 L if the car has 4 cylinders.

I am just assuming here. Please clarify. Thanks!!

This means that your car engine combustion chambers total volume is 1600 cc's, or about 98 to 100 cubic inch's displacement.

its the amount of air displaced on a full cycle.
area of the cylinder (pi x r^2) x length of stroke x number of cylinders. so basically, yah, you got it. but carefull, its not exactly the volume of each cylinder, its the change in volume from top of the stroke to bottom of the stroke.
