My baby is 2 months old. He latched right on from day one and we never really had problems. Recently he will only nurse from the left side and screams at the right side (not every time.) And then for a couple weeks now he will refuse both sides a couple times a day! What is wrong- reflux, ear infection, tummyache? Anyone had something similar happen?

You are not alone! My baby did this for a while, too, and I never really figured out what the problem was. But it's important to remember that your baby can sense your stress and will become distressed as a result. So try to keep your calm, and focus on keeping the baby calm and relaxed. If he screams and refuses to nurse on that side, go to the other, and if he still screams, let it go. I found myself worrying about whether he was getting enough to eat until I found out he was in the 98th percentile for weight. Then I realized he was going to be just fine, even if he missed a feeding. And then one day, it just stopped (the screaming). He is still nursing very happily at 13 months old now. Contact LLL and hang in there, it will pass!!

Mine did the same thing.

Turns out my right breast does not flow as quickly as the left...she was just really impatient!

It is easy to worry about this--I did too--but it's probably nothing. In a couple of months you'll both be even better at nursing and this will pass.

In the meantime I highly recommend calling someone from your local chapter of la leche league who can give you tips. Just get on their website and find your local chapter. There are usually email addresses or phone numbers listed for the people who run the local chapter and they can consult with you over the phone. It's really a great and very supportive organization.

I would be careful about pumping one side and not the other because the pump can't get as much milk out as the baby and you may end up decreasing your milk supply on that one side inadvertently.

Good luck.

Sounds like my little one.

It's normal.
My guess, is that you are RIGHT HANDED. And when you're nursing from your left breast, you're doing things with your right.

It's a different angle for the little one.

I would pump from my right, and feed from my left until he got used to it.

Give him time.

Overactive let down? Try leaning back when you feed.
