When my daughter was 12 she started becoming very disrespectful to her father & I. We tried everything, she kept getting worse. When she started highschool she smoked, tried drugs, and drank alcohol. About 2 months into highschool she made a bestfriend. What can I say other than he was a horrible kid as well. She started skipping classes with him, smoking more, getting high at lunch and the school did nothing about it! We were about to take her out of that school when her bestfriend moved. She said she was going to try & get her grades up & go to class. DIDN'T HAPPEN. He moved back. They faught every single day. She came home crying over it. 3 months later they started dating. Neither of them smoke anymore. People come up to me and say "You have the most respectful daughter ever!" They're always helping other people out now, and they went from straight Fs to straight As. Both are going to college also!
I love my daughter more than anything, but, What made them change?

Time.....
People have this misconception about teenagers that all they want to do is be deviant well in some cases yeah, they do. When I was a teen, I started out being a straight A student, having little to no friends, etc. Then when I hit high school, I got mixed in with the politics of high school drama, tried alcohol and drugs and smoked cigarettes. Now, I still smoke cigarettes but I don't drink or do drugs. I think everyone needs to try something in order to realize what it can or can't do for them. You can preach to someone over and over and over again that the pan is hot, but they will still touch it to see. Glad to see that she has changed!

Don't ask why to the miracles of grace just be thankful that they both finally grew up and took control of there life. It could have been a number of things. Did you try asking you daughter what made her decide to turn things around?

she probably realized that life is hard and drugs ruin it. education is the way to go. when that guy moved out, she probably did some thinking. everyone in there teenage years are rebellious and done their share of drugs and get over it and grow up. unfortunately there are those who dont get a reality check and suffer. fortunately ur daughter was bright enough to stop playing games. good for her.

WOW HUH WOW
SORRY I CANNT STOP SAYING WOW
THEY WERE TOUCH. WAIT. THEY REALIZE THAT AFTER DOING EVERYTHING WRONG AND KNOWING YOU AND HER FATHER WOULD GO CRAZY OVER THE IDEA OF HER ACTIONS, YOU ACTUALLY GAVE HER THE SPACE SHE NEED IT. SHE REBEL ON YOU GUYS, YET YOU DIDNT WENT NUTS OVER THE IDEA OF IT.
THEY HAD A CHOICE. EITHER GO IN MORE DEEPER OR FIX IT. THAT IS BETTER KNOWN AS GROWING UP. WOW!!!
IS AMAZING YOU HAVE A DAUGHTER THAT WANTS TO GO TO COLLEGE AND THAT HAS MANAGE TO GO FROM F'S TO A'S.
BUT I THINK IS A VERY GOOD IDEA OF YOU TO ASK HER WHAT CHANGE. YOU GUYS MIGHT BE SURPRISE FOR HER ANSWER.
AND WHEN I SAID THEY WERE TOUCH, I MEANT THEY COULD HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT. METAPHORICALLY SPEAKING.

The power of love is a curious thing
make a one man weep, make another man sing
Change a hawk to a little white dove
more than a feeling, that's the power of love.

Why are you so afraid of asking your daughter directly? I think you should build a relationship with your daughter. Now days, mothers are so busy trying to be mothers, we forget to give our friendship to our children.
Consider your self lucky that your daughter have gone bad to fabulous! Its great that they have realized that they needed to straighten their life and they succeeded. Give them all the support you can and try to offer them your friendship.
Remember when they were babies and we played with them? We were playing with them on their level making goo goo sounds to communicate. Why not try the same with your daughter now? What do you have to loose but to earn trust and friendship.
Try it! It can be great!
