surface to volume ratio
surface must be big enough to take in required substances for inside. if the cell grows too big it will not have a big enough membrane to support its needs

volume to surface area. A cell can only get so big before the surface of its membrane will no longer provide sufficient area for the cell's necessary ractions with its extracellular environment.
