He is never 'captured'
The first time L just suspects him enough to put him and Misa in cell to watch them for a length of time. Ultimately this proves that Raito thinks way far ahead instead.
The END - he isn't captured - its a show down that didn't go as planned with Mikami at the wheel. And in so he reveals himself to Near and everyone... then he is killed by Ryuk.
The episode... who knows really, as they could draw out the series for a while like 52 episodes if they wanted, really wanted to.
