Sydney has been having very dry winters. Can get very cold but you get lots of sunny days. Pack some warm clothes.

There is a lot to do in Sydney, it is a big beautiul city. January is the Festival of Sydney with lots of theatre, dance, music and art with the big free concerts in the Domain including Opera in the Park and Symphony under the Stars.

February is the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, a month long festival of theatre, music etc celebrating difference. This culminates in the parade through the city on March 3 this year and a huge dance party.

From April onwards, religion takes centre stage as the football season gets under way. There is Rugby League, Rugby Union and Soccer which are all worth while but you must make a pilgrimage to the SCG to see the almighty Sydney Swans make mincemeat of the opposition in Australian Football.

There is lots to do in Sydney. You will find free brochures in tourist areas called "What's on in Sydney". In most pubs in and close to the city you will find free newspapers which have comprehensive guides to what is happening that week. Absolute musts are Centrepoint Tower, Observatory Hill and the Rocks, Taronga Park Zoo, ferry rides all over the harbour including a rivercat to Parramatta, the beaches - Bondi, Manly etc, and just strolling from the Bridge to Mrs Macquarie's Chair taking in Circular Quay, the Opera House and the Botanic Gardens. Do it night or day.

Some suggestions:
You could start by climbing the harbour bridge.
Go up centre point tower.
Cruise around on a sydney fairy (a lot too see)!
Go to luna park.

If there is ONE thing - apart from all the things already answered by others above - is to sit down on Manly Beach and have fresh fish and chips for lunch.

You CAN NOT say you have done it all in Sydney if you have not doen this!

lastminute.com.au and citysearch.com.au are also great sites to check out for special deals etc~

to be honest, i think the harbour bridge climb is over-rated, not to mention over-priced, and you probably won't get much out of the experience apart from a pair of really sore legs and messy, wind-blown hair~
