It depends on what you're playing, what kind of speakers you have (and what they can handle), room acoustics and personal preference. Personally, I like something like this:

31 = 5
62 = 6
125 = 5
250 = 4
500 = 2
1K = 0
2K = -4
4K = -5
8K = 0
16K = 2

For ideas, look at all the preset EQ settings in Winamp and use that as a guide.
