I'm an American, love living here, follow the law, pay my taxes, participate in the political system, active in the community, etc. You'd think that someone who hated America WOULDN'T do those things. But people here call me an America hater all the time, because I oppose Bush's illegal war in Iraq and other anti-democratic policies.

How do they get off trying to define what "loving America" means? Nobody appointed those fascists as America's moral authority.

Actually, Alex, wanting to see justice done seems very American to me.

You know what my friend...You have the right to agree with bush or not agree. People should not be saying that about you not unless you really do hate America, and for what i am reading you are not. Just ignore them...they are ignorant people, and just trying to cause problems. You have the freedom to think , feel, and put out your beliefs. They are just being immature. So don't stoup to their level, because that's what they want you to do.
Hope this helps.

This whole "hate" thing is way overdone. The word has basically lost it's meaning from being tossed about so much.

How about "dislike" or "disagree?"

Why do some people have to resort to extremes so often?

That whole love/hate, either/or, with us/against us thing is all specious logic and the work of small minds.

Some people also think they understand the definition of "propaganda," and they do not.

Take the phrase,"support our troops," for example.

Now, every tax paying citizen of the USA "supports" the troops. There's no way you can avoid it!!!! Part of YOUR wages goes to buy war supplies and pay soldiers.

You may agree with the war, or you may disagree with it, but the fact remains you "support it" whether you like it or not.

Beyond that, unless you're sending a troop some magazines or personal care products, or just mail from home, you're not doing anything of a concrete, material nature to "support" them.

It could be that because you're being outspoken about a war that's going badly, and they know they voted for the man responsible for putting those policies into play, that it's easier for them to accuse you of being an "America-hater" than it is for them to admit that they were wrong.

I still see people driving around with Bush bumperstickers on their car. Unbelievable.

You could suggest they read some early American history.

Someone who continually puts down the American system and it's goverment. The goverment represents the country something that people tend to forget. No one has to like the president and you can even disagree with him, it's your right but when you do mean spirited attacks then it crosses the line. Remember the Democrats are in office now so it isn't all Bush. To be honest I skip over a lot of your questions cause they cross the line so much. Just tone it down.

You are not an America hater.. on the contrary you are one of the majority in this country right now who are America lovers. We care about our countries morals. We who oppose the war are not wrong this time.. our president has made a big mistake and is too stubborn to give up on it.

Over 65% of Americans are against this horrible war and yet a minority is taking us down the wrong path.. so who loves and who hates America?

If you hate these words, you hate America:

"“Anyone who trades liberty for security deserves neither liberty nor security”" -Benjamin Franklin

"To Follow by faith alone is to follow blindly.” -Benjamin Franklin

"This country will not be a good place for any of us to live in unless we make it a good place for all of us to live in." -Theodore Roosevelt

"He loves his country best who strives to make it best." -Robert G. Ingersoll

"Our country, right or wrong." When right to be kept right; when wrong to be put right. -Carl Schurz

"Our country is not the only thing to which we owe our allegiance. It is also owed to justice and to humanity. Patriotism consists not in waving the flag, but in striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong." -James Bryce

"Territory is but the body of a nation. The people who inhabit its hills and valleys are its soul, its spirit, its life." -James Garfield

"We need a type of patriotism that recognizes the virtues of those who are opposed to us..... The old "manifest destiny" idea ought to be modified so that each nation has the manifest destiny to do the best it can - and that without cant, without the assumption of self-righteousness and with a desire to learn to the uttermost from other nations." -Francis John McConnell

"We need an America with the wisdom of experience. But we must not let America grow old in spirit." -Hubert H. Humphrey

"Each man must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man. To decide against your conviction is to be an unqualified and excusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let men label you as they may." -Mark Twain

"He is a poor patriot whose patriotism does not enable him to understand how all men everywhere feel about their altars and their hearthstones, their flag and their fatherland." -Harry Emerson Fosdick

"Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth." -JFK

Actually, they were appointed by the Supreme Court once, and lost the popular vote in the second. Do you remember the "thumping" (according to GW) in the midterm elections.
