-1 <= 1 - 2y < 3 - 3

-2 <= -2y < 0
1 >= y >= 0

You have to find the values on for y, so you want to get only y in the middle section. Therefore, you subtract 1 from all sides, as you want to get the 1 out from the y section.

-2
You would then need to divide by -2 to get the y by itself, but when you divide by a negative number in an inequality, you have to flip the signs around. Thus:

1 >/= y > 1/2

You can do this by first subtracting 1 from all sides of the equation. Then you would get -2 /=y>1/2

-1 ≤ 1 - 2y < 3 - 3
-1 ≤ 1 - 2y < 0

Splitting it into individual inequalities

-1 ≤ 1 - 2y
2y - 1 ≤ 1
2y ≤ 2
y ≤ 1

1 - 2y < 0
1 < 2y
0.5 < y

y ≤ 1 AND y > 0.5

So 0.5 < y ≤ 1
