I am a musician, and that happened to me all the time, I usually dream lyrics though, so I have a notepad and pen next to the bed, therefore if I do wake up and it's still somewhat fresh in my head, I try to get it all written down before I lose it. I know that if I was to go back to sleep without writing it down, that I would have no rememberance of it in the morning.

Yeah, that's happened once or twice. I was singing a song in a dream, and it seemed really cool but I completly forgot it the next morning.

Yes I have. You can try sleeping with a pen and pad and as soon as you wake up before getting out of bed write down what you were thinking. It works sometimes.
