They've both been around longer than any television (let alone commercial television), and relied heavily on the printed media for their advertising campaigns. Many people will remember the "Bisto Kids", for example. OXO found many ways to advertise itself, including the OXO tower on the south bank of the River Thames in London, and various promotional gifts. When TV advertising arrived, Sooty, and his original owner Harry Corbett, advertised OXO.
