El Nino is basically an annual temperature reversal in the pacific ocean. Waters that were once cool are now warm and there for cause unusual weaher patterns for the year. La Nina is basically the complete opposite.

Weather wise- Its a hot air mass that is always moving around the Mexico region and sometimes it shoots hot air to places cause trouble. If El Nino didnt exsist then Mexico wouldnt be so Hot. (Watch Bill Nye on El Nino)
