I want to find some good English history books to read. I'm interested in normal day to day life of normal people throughout history rather than monarchs and wealthy people. I'm reading a book by Tony Robinson about the worst jobs in history and am really enjoying it so want something to read next!

Try The Proud Tower, or A Distant Mirror, or The Guns of August, all by Barbara Tuchman.

The first is a portrait of the world before the war 1890-1914. The second is an overview of 14th Century medieval Europe, & the last covers the breaking out of World War I.

I would recommend 'The ragged trousered philanthropists', by Robert Tressell. A story that deals with the social problems of the day in Edwardian Britain, and yet is still very relevant and identifiable in the 21 Century. 'Workers of the world Unite'.

You might go to your local library and go through their collection of American Heritage. All types of articles are there concerning day to day people.
