Mustaine played for a little band called "Metallica," and he was their original lead guitar player before he was kicked out for his "drinking"; however, the commonly-held belief is that Mustaine and Hetfield didn't get along and he was kicked aside so the band could hire the vastly superior Kirk Hammett.
Mustaine's early impact on the band was so deep that he has song-writing credit for many of the band's first songs - all the way through to their second album, Ride the Lightning.

he started out playing for Metallica, but they kicked him out. Then he made his own band, Fallen Angels. He also had a side band while playing in Megadeth, it was called MD. 45.
