How can you tell the difference between a male and female guppy? Is it the same way as a male and female molly? And they are livebearers also?

In guppies it is extrememly easy to tell the male from the female.
Filly grown, the females will tend to be larger than the males. They also lack the brightly colored bodies that the males are known for. The males usually tend to have a much larger, more colorful tail and fins than the females and the males also tend to have a more slender body.

Its similar to the mollies but is simpler.
They are also livebearers.

The sure way to tell a livebearer male from female is that the females will have a triangular fin protruding from halfway down the bottom of their body. Males will have a long thin fin in the same place. While male guppies do tend to be brighter in color, for livebearers in general, it's best to check on the fins!

The above answers are correct. As you will have seen, there are many colour variations, mainly in the male fish. All fish bearing these colour variations will interbreed sometimes producing even more different colours & patterns. The main problem with this is that these traits usually begin to decline with interbreeding with a gradual loss of colour, pattern, & finnage shape.

The male is always going to be more pretty. Prettier colors, and a prettier tail.
