What is the main differences between these two different computers/processors? Which would you recommend? Which would be the best choice for running mutiple programs at once and the best choice for working with graphics with paint shop? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Honestly, the average home computer user probably would not notice a difference between these two processors. I would go with the AMD, since it is probably the cheaper of the two, and I've only had good experiences with HP computers and AMD processors.

you should go for
HP AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor 3500+ 1GB Dual-channel DDR2 SDRAM

First of all HP name is there

for the processor , just download Doctor hardware tool

and run banch mark to test both CPUs, then you can compare the performance in diffrent level of access
in most of operation is both CPU are equal, but Athlon is cheaper than core 2 duo
