Delhi lies in the temperate zone with a semi arid terrain. Native vegetation is bushy 'Kikar' trees and desert grasses.
Native animals are the fox, the jackal, various snakes, scorpions etc. Not that much wild life survives :-)
Birds are varied from the common sparrows n mynas to exotic ducks that come to the Okhla Bird sanctuary along the Yamuna.

When 'New Delhi' was constructed trees from all over the world were brought in and planted along the roads. The criteria of selection was varied.. from the beauty of foliage and flowers to the amount of shade it offered or the fruit it bore.
There is an excellent field guide on Delhi's Trees. You can get more details here:

It all depends on what you want out of that city, and what kind of life style you prefer to live. Do you want a fast paced, on the move kind life style, or a quite slower paced? Do you, every city has it's own pros and cons. So what would like and expect in a city, and what does your friend like and expect from a city? Personally if I want to live a non-hectic slower paced life, I would choose a small town in India, where as if I want a fast paced, where I am always doing something, and am on the move, I would choose a big city like Mumbai. If I had to choose, I would choose Mumbai, because I have been to Mumbai so many times, and I know what it is like in Mumbai. But I am also being biased, because I have not been to any other cities, except Delhi, and that too only couple of times for transits only. But I like Mumbai. I was watching a show, I think, on BBC, and they stated that "Mumbai is the boot camp of the world, if you can survive here, you can survive anywhere in the world."
