My doctor said you should never give an enema to a child with out the doctor seeing the child first.

Please see your MD to rule out other medical problems. Constipation was a symptom of GERD disease for my daughter. She takes medicine prescribed by her specialist. My son had allergies so bad it would bind him up. Like the other user says, TRUE constipation is when the child/person hasn't had a bowl movement in 4-6 days. Be careful of impactions, I wouldn't let my child go more than 3 days with NO bowl movement. Get the child to the MD. There are over the counter supositories but again, they should NOT be used with out the consent of your MD. Read the warnings on the OTC laxatives. Be safe...the child is so young even at the age of 6. Good luck!

My son had constipation all of his life so far. If it got really bad there is a child's suppository that is safe. It is a liquid that you put up there, I forgot what it is called but it is available at any drug store. It works in a matter of minutes. Also, senacot has liquid drops that I used to put into a little prune juice and it works great. Constipation is not a medical emergency unless the child hasn't gone for like a week and the stomach is bloated and he is in pain otherwise over the counter products work fine.

I've heard a good home remedy was a little Dove soap. Insert just like an enema.

That seems a little harsh for a kid, don't ya think? Why don't you ask your doc for something. Or try something natural. Prune juice or prunes, raisins, alot of fiber.
