Any ideas of a good creative social norm to violate? I can not break the law or scare people...thanks for any help.

There are different types of norms.
One kind of norm refers to attitudes or what people feel is right based on morals or beliefs.
A second type of norm is concerned with behavior, i.e. what people actually do.
So go to a place where people "normally" relate to each other, have conversation, interact with each other, flirt, whatever and be as UNsocial and withdrawn as you can. Dont talk to anyone. Dont relate. Dont make eye contact. See what happens.

Write about your experiences dating black men. That's still a violation of a social norm in most area.

the socially approved norm for most conversations is at arm's length. Cut the space down to say 12 inchs between you and the other person and notice the behavior. Be sure to have your Altoid's with you!

I think a good one would be to talk with an accent. If you talk with a hillbilly accent if you live in the city, or a proper accent if you live in a rural community. Simply record the way people act towards you. If you live in a city and speak slang you will be treated as though you are not intelligent. If you live in the country, and speak properly, you will be treated as though you are snobby. Try it.

Sit down while pushing your shopping cart to the check out line.
Hold your ear while listening and keep saying "Pardon" and "Sorry?" and "Would you repeat that?"
Ask to borrow underwear from another student
Go to a restaurant, order a meal for yourself and an imaginary friend and then talk to 'them' all through the eating
Sing loudly during a unfamiliar church service and off key
That's it!

ride an elevator, facing the BACK and observe.
strike up random conversations with people and talk three inches from their face,
walk backwards around a mall for example.
im sure there are more that arent illegal.
at least its not hard to think of any for me.
probably because im odd like that.

Try dressing up to go to the movies or some place where most would wear everyday clothes. Then show proper manners as your elders showed you.
That will shake some people up.

Wear clothes in an unusual way, like wrapping a t-shirt round your arm. You could do something more daring, but hey, you have a reputation to uphold :p

Face the wrong way in an elevator.
Strike up a conversation with someone and stand too close.
When talking to someone stare at their forehead instead of in their eyes.
Greet someone with a hug that you normally wouldn't like a teacher.
