Depends on the coach. Tomlin was just hired by the Steelers and got a 4 year $10 million contract, so $2.5 mil a year give or take. When Cowher retired they were saying Holmgren makes like $8 mil a year as the highest paid, I believe. So clearly Smith is underpaid by current standards. In any case though that should give you about a standard for pay. The better you are the more you will make, but if it is under $2.5 million(it is known the Rooneys aren't big spenders as they don't have the money to be, they made the team from scratch to what it is without outside money or starting money) I should be rather surprised for future contracts.

It depends. Coaches, just like the players, have agents and negotiate contracts with the team owners. The Bears coach, Lovie Smith, is the lowest paid coach in the NFL right now. I think he's making in the neighborhood or 1.5 million.
