Take the shirt, lay the affected area out flat on a ironing board, wax side up.
Get a wash-cloth, or towel, or some other high-percentage, thick, cotton material.
Get an iron.
Heat iron until hot enough to melt the wax (you may have to practice and increase the heat a couple of times). Place the cotton towel over the wax-spot on the shirt, then apply the iron to the towel. The hot iron will heat the towel which will in turn melt the wax. The towel will then absorb the wax from the shirt.
I do not recommend this method if you are using your mother's (or spouse's best, expensive, "reserved-for-company" towels).

get a brown paper bag, or the kind of brown paper you use for sending parcels by post , place paper on the material and with your warm to hot iron run across the paper this will lift the wax from your clothes, & the same on carpets
