Both are famous for totally opposite reasons. Gandhi is famous for being an intelligent, spiritual and gentle man trying to help his people and the world. He believed there were ways to live together on this planet in harmony, and his teachings will live on forever.
Hitler is famous for being a mad man, without religion or spirit, barbaric and inhuman, who fantasized he was the chosen one to rid the world of all he thought was not of the pure race. He was responsible for horrendous acts of genocide and barbarism.
Both men should always be remembered, but for very different reasons. We should try to follow the teachings of Gandhi, yet never allow the likes of Hitler to have any power again.

Do you mean who is more famous between the two? I'd say Hitler because well...when was the last time you saw 10 documentaries on Gandhi in the History channel in one week?

An interesting question. If you are disposed to prejudice and dictatorial I guess you would say Hitler. Reasoning that if you can charm, harangue, coherse, and beat people into the way you believe society should be ordered and function than you can run the world that way. There is part of all of us that think we are better than others.
On the other hand if you are disposed to peaceful solutions and rationale thought I think you would say Gandhi. Both those ideas are not as much in your face and often take longer to evolve change . However I believe the results of this type of change last in society longer.

Both were famous for entirely different reasons, but we recall Gandhi more than we remember Hitler because peace scores over violence.
