I recently gave birth to my first child at 37 weeks. She was stillborn and so far we have no answers as to why. I'm looking to possibly switch doctors, but I don't know where to go. I need someone who will be overly-concerned about every aspect of any future pregnancies, someone who will go above and beyond. The doctor I have now has an "I've done this a million times" attitude and I don't feel like I'm getting the best treatment. If anyone has been through a loss and could recommend a great ob/gyn I would greatly appreciate it.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was blessed to have a very caring doctor when I experienced my loss. She referred me to a maternal-fetal medicine specialist for my future pregnancies, (2/3 of stillbirths are never found a cause). You should contact Cincinnati Children's Hospital and get a recommendation for a perinatologist. http://www.cincinnatichildrens.org/svc/alpha/n/neonatology/

Many Docs will tell you that this is a rare occurance and the chance of it happening again is less than 3%. True enough--but that doesn't help alleviate your stress during subsequent pregnanices. My Dr did bi-monthly ultra sounds--seeing that heartbeat was so reassuring. My loss was at 35 weeks--when you get close to that benchmark--you're going to need weekly checks. You should contact your local SHARE chapter and speak with other moms in your area and get recommendations from them:

Please check out the National Stillbirth Society's web page (I am the Wisconsin Director--you can email me thru the State links):

Your state director is Robin Polley--her link is also there. There are many support groups to help --please don't hesitate to contact me.

Contact your insurance company and see if they have names of high-risk doctors. I love the OB/GYN's because they don't act like they know everything. I lost a baby girl at 21 weeks back in Aug...she would have been born around Dec 12th, due to incompetent cervix. My OB/GYN's have already told me that when I get pregnant again they are sending me to another doctor in the next town at a high-risk hospital. I would even check your yellow pages and make a few phone calls to different doctor's offices in your area. I am sorry for your loss and I wish you luck in the future.

I see Dr. Coppage in the Seton Center at The Good Samaratin Hospital. She is very nice and easy to talk to. Her and the other doctors in that practice deal with problem pregnancies. Of course I am having problems with this pregnancy for some strange reason, they diagnosed me with a seizure disorder at 17 weeks. Did your OB tell you the reason for your baby being stillborn?

I don't know from experience, but I've heard good things about Dr. Chin. Here's a link to his website: http://www.chinbaby.com/index.htm

I'm terribly sorry for your loss, I wish you the best of luck in the future.
