I have Windows Professional 2000 and I keep getting an error message whenever I try to access the Internet through Internet Explorer. The message says, "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application." Every time I get on the Internet, it pops up and I get the "This page cannot be displayed" page- no matter what website that I go to. I know that it is not a matter of my internet connection, because my Outlook Express is still working fine and I can send and recieve mail, but both my Internet and my Instant Messaging programs are not working. Please help me! I need internet access without having to use a friend's computer! Thank you!

This happened to me when IE was trying to connect to a proxy server. I shutdown my computer, waited 10 minutes, and restarted my computer. I was then able to connect to the Internet. The next time this happened I downloaded FireFox before I had anymore problems. Now I very rarely use IE. Never have had this problem with FireFox.

It sound's like the internet explorer has a bad file. One thing you can do is download a set up Internet explorer on another computer and than burn it on CD or transfer on flash card and reinstall it on your computer.

.
Clearly the problem is with IE.
Go here and reinstall
Internet Explorer 6 for XP Sp2
over what you have now.
If you want a MS IE that runs smoothly

Since you are asking a question here, you obviously are able to connect to your ISP via some browser. Or maybe you went to the library to ask. Whatever your method, try uninstalling IE7, which will revert you to IE6. See if then you can connect.
