Dale Carnegie offers a 1 or 2 day workshop on How To Become An Effective Speaker. It's excellent. They also have a book with the same Title.
Or join a Toastmasters Club and practice a lot. Good luck. Be sure to talk about stuff you know. Do not say, um or "like, I want to tell you." Avoid using the word "like". It's so overused today.

u take part in debate thats good.u should try to practice speaking in front of mirror this will help u to overcome ur shyness.when u get expert in it then try speaking in infront of ur closed ones this will help u to boost up ur confidience.while speaking in public always try to make an eye contact with audience ,but do n't fix ur eyes on any one particular this will be not good for ur concentration, rather try to look on every one this will have a good impect on listener as it made them to feel that u r trying to make a contact with them.
keep a regular check on ur tone, speed & rythem while speaking this will be helpful to u a lot.try to made some face gesture or hand movements to made audience understand ur point clearly(try this only when u r in a bit of informal atmosphere & also don't move ur hands too much otherwise it will go in -ive).above all this always be prepared for ur topic thoroughly with statistics & other required data.

Refrain from using the words "um" and "uh", or anything like that. I think that using those words can make anyone a poor speaker. Speak loudly and clearly and look at your audience. Practice speeches while looking at yourself in the mirror or video tape yourself. Then you can see what you look and sound like to other people. Hope this helps. :)

well im not sure but when u r in a debate always rephrase what they say,not everything, and then say what ur goin to say and in a speech u always divide the audiance in 3, so when u say ur speech u stand tall and not nervous and loud n clear, u say a part to the 1st third which could be in ur left or right, then u look to the front and then the other side...i hope it works for u

you need to analyse your self. know your weakness and strengths. have a well laid out speech if your speaking in front of a crowd..make sure you're relating to the crowd..give a self credit statement (ex. .if you re talking about rape or smoking.. and u know someone who has died from lung cancer..mention that..) when you give self credit the audience tends to pay more attention. also make regular eye connect. think that you're talking with the audience as in having a normal conversation rather then preaching to them .. and give statistics...especially in your introduction..so it grabs the persons attention..also move around...use your space.. don't centralise your self..and yes.. Practise your speech well.
