I took voice lessons for 2 years when I was a kid so I know a lot of techniques but when I got older (I'm 19 now) without knowing it I started singing really vibrato and I can't seem to not sing vibrato.

Ahh that is a trick, my dear. What you need to do is concentrate while singing. Focus on getting a smooth tone and allowing vibrato to come to life at the end of the note being held. You have to train yourself to hear the difference. No one can make it happen for you. Be sure you're breathing and projecting by utilizing your diaphragm. If you've had voice lessons in the past, go back and get a refresher. You've just lost technique. Good luck!

Vibrato in a singing voice is a good thing of course...(it's what those lousy singers on American Idle lack)...
Hard for us here to give you proper advice without hearing you so, might be worth getting the opinion of another voice teacher that can actually listen to you sing.

I've had the same problem and have somewhat solved it. I found that I needed to breathe ONLY using expanding and contracting my "stomach" region. I learned to do that by using a suggestion from a different Yahoo answer; ie to put a tight belt around your chest so you have to breathe using your diaphram (stomach area). It seemed to help me. Practice over about a week helped a lot.
