The reason I myself have no pride in this country is that it is run by the rich and crooked for the rich and crooked and until this changes there is no way can I call myself an Englishman. As for the Americans they think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread and yet are a collection of moronic mongrels.

Why the stereotypes? I cannot speak for the UK, but not all Americans are thrilled with their country. I am a bit ashamed at our actions and the way the government is treating it's own citizens and those abroad. The US is a bit of a banana republic right now.
And Stephen P you are quite charming aren't ya? Perhaps if you talked to some real Americans instead of just watching them on the TV? A country that repeatedly elected Thatcher really can't go around calling others morons. By your reasoning, was Winston Churchill one half moron then?

I have pride in Queen and Country and unlike many know all the words to the glorious National Anthem. The only thing most Brits don't have pride in, is the awful labour government

It might be because the Americans are undefeated in every war they have been in, excluding Vietnam, which ended in a draw. The English might be ashamed that they lost to the Americans when they had more troops, more fire-power, and more discipline than the Americans.
Or maybe it's the other way around. The English might be proud of the royal family, and the Americans ashamed of how much they have contributed to pollution.

British folks have a lot of pride in their country. They just aren't so gaudy about it like we Americans. We go around singing the Star-Spangled Banner loudly and triumphantly, while they stand at serene and respectful attention when God Save The Queen is played. They're just as proud of their country as we are of ours; they're just a bit more muted (as they are in all things)...

It is illegal in England to be proud of being English, just as racist as it is to not encourage the cultures from wherever anywhere else it, you are not allowed to fly the flag of saint george in a public place apparently anymore, and if you try to imbrace what little culture there is left, you are seen as a racist out of touch biggot, and it is a vicous circle leading to what central London is like today, except to extend out of the ghettos into the green hills that is really England
