Because most of us are looking for someone to believe in. For the most vulnerable of us, a promise of something better is all we want to hear. So, we fall for schemes and lies over and over again. Each time, we say to ourselves, "this could be it". And if we ever get the notion not to believe, it's washed away by the fear that this might be the one time that our belief is going to materialize. But I don't think that most people are foolish, just some of us.

They mostly come at night... mostly.

Most (not mostly) people are foolish because they don't bother to think before they speak, act, or type. Some are foolish because that is how they were raised. Some have mental problems. Some aren't foolish, but seem that way.

Who's more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows him?

it is wrong to think that most people are foolish in the sense you mean. people are fooled only if they are outsmarted by another clever person

well assuming you're trying to ask why most people are foolish (that's all I could gather from what you wrote), I think that's really in the eyes of the observer.

Because 'they' do not act in the way that you wouldexpect them to, does not necessarily make then foolish!
However, people who kill thenselves through abject stupidity are only making the gene pool stronger. We need to 'chaff the wheat', as it were! Let the stupid die.

Desire, and trust: These are the two reasons that people are fooled. They desire something, or they trust someone.
