Morocco, like many other countries I have been to, is home to large groups of children who look to foreign tourists for goodies. I now take school supplies (crayons, pencils, coloring books, tablets) and give them to the first group of children who approaches me, but as somebody else has said here, when you give the first group of kids something, other groups of kids will follow them, having heard tales of your generosity!
I would never give sweets to children. Bad for their teeth!

You can give them if you wish but be prepared if you are soon after crowded by other children. Donot be alarmed though. They are harmless. Just signal to them that your supplies are all out If you are in the countryside or in the mountains of Marrakesh you may find groups because you usually will not find a group of children in the city. Giving local children in Morocco by tourist is always done. It is nothing new to them but they will appreiciate it a great deal with all smiles. If you'd like to give them, give them something which will benifit them. Pencils, pens, erasers, small notebooks, crayons, socks, tee-shirts, small toys or anything of this sort. Unlike someone suggested, giving the local children is in no way an offense.

Marrakesh is just a town that sums up all Morocco's incredible North African charm, notice it with hotelbye . The city's title offered the main for the title of the country itself, spelling out that town's value down the ages. Within the hustle of the city key you will find previous and new clashing and blending, that may make some tourists almost dizzy. Snake charmers and clean store touts both compete for your attention amid a loud, colorful bustle that encapsulates Morocco's vibrant soul. For a lot of guests, Marrakesh's labyrinth Medina (Old City) region is the town's star attraction. The thin alleyways certainly are a kaleidoscope of colours, smells and sounds. Is bound to function as sightseeing highlight of your trip; along with the just wandering is meant to lively maze.

If you are approached by beggars in a crowded area, which will include children, then just give money. But if you do want to give a little more then just remember that the simplest of things are appreciated by the children. For example, they love those bubble pots (where you blow the bubbles), crayons/pencils, balls...... I wouldn't give them sweets.
Rather than just approaching children in the street, why dont you ask at the reception of your hotel. Maybe you could ask if the staff (maids, bar staff, waiters, cooks etc...) have children and give the things to them.
My husband is Moroccan and whenever we visit his family we always take these sorts of things for the children. We also take clothes for them which is greatly appreciated. Maybe you could even find out where an orphanage is in Marrakech.
Marrakech is amazing, my favourite place in Morocco! It's perfectly safe, just use your common sense as you would visiting any country.
Hope this helps.

Obviously when you give to one you end giving to all, when i was there I gave them money, just a few dirham or even some centimes each, at the end of the day in our money it is nothing in comparison. Also when we went to the smaller villages they dont want money as it causes upset between the community members, but they do ask for pens, pencils paper. I hope whatever you decide to do is right for you and that you enjoy yourselves.

These kids really are poor and by not giving to them you won't make their parents send them to school instead. Many in Morocco can't afford the pencils and books to send their children to school. I say bless these kids anyway you can, clothes, food, small toys. Yes, you'll attract a crowd, but when you run out, you run out.

Sorry, but I don't agree with others who have said give sweets. Beggars in all underprivileged countries can't afford dentists fees so use your head. When I went to Nepal one of the Sherpas had a raging tooth ache and we had a whip round for him to go to the dentist to pull it out. Those boys work all week for 25$!! We also took packets of coloured pens and colouring books for the little kids.Give these kids something they can use to brighten their day for a long time, not a 5 minute thing. Also I don't agree with giving money as I believe that only encourages begging.

i say give them nothing at all...u will soon realise soon as Ur in Marrakesh the children adults of all ages will be gathered round you..begging..they dont want anything but money..i had a group of 10-15 kids hassle me for over an hour just following me around the square they wud not leave me alone. so i say just do what you gotta do for the reasons your going to Marrakesh..if you insist on giving them something hand out some boiled snails everyone in Morocco loves snails and it better than sweets.
i see iv been getting thumbs down, id like to know why and whats wrong with my answer, its a fact if you have ever been there you will realise what the place is like, im talking from experience and i was being honest about the snails you will find out for yourself
