My highschool's soccer season is on it's way and I'm varsity potential, but right now it looks as if I'll probably be back up, which means I'll see a lot of the bench and not too much of the field. I want to be as good as possible when tryouts start, so I'm looking for some professional advice to improve my talent. Anyone know where I can get it? Even a good web page would be excelent!

Watch what the professional players do. Go and see games or watch them on tv. Look at their positioning, decision making, handling of set peices and managemant of the players ahead of them.

As someone said before me, you usually have to dive forwards when trying to make a save so as to get to the ball earlier. However, that isn't always the case, as you will need to jump backwards sometimes (although the only time you should do it is if the ball is curled). If you're playing on a normal goal, your height might be an issue (unless you're still relatively young). But the best thing I can tell you, since I'm in my senior year in high school and the first choice goalkeeper, the most important thing for a goalkeeper is his positioning: you won't need to make incredible saves if you're in the right position (although sometimes you will have to pull a miraculous one). You will also have to shout a lot at your defenders to organize them and always boss your area: it's a lot more comforting for a defense to be able to depend on their goalkeeper. Anyways, don't give up, being a goalkeeper is really hard and mentally tiring, but there are some moments that make it all worth it. Also, some games everything can work for you and you won't concede (it's happened to me a lot of time) and some days everything goes wrong (also happened to me) so you just have to pick yourself up and get on with it.
