We don't call anything crisps. We call fries fries because they're fried. Why do you call them chips? Soda is called pop in some areas. In some areas they just say coke. The u that was in color was useless so we took it out.

You call like McDonald's fries chips? We have potato chips, and strings of potato we call fries. We don't refer to anything as fizzy, but use pop and soda all the time. Why do you guys call it fizzy? Or do you call it fizzy pop? And since I'm confused on your meaning of chips, I am not sure what you are saying about crisps. As far as I know - no one uses crisps as a word in larger pop culture.

Words like colour dropped the silent u in America because it was easier for our huge population of immigrants to become fluent with the English language that way.

Sorry we made it easier for people to come live here by chopping up your precious ENGLISH language.

To us, chips are thin sliced potatoes with salt on them. I heard you call them crisps? Fries are long, thicker, cooked in a deep fat fryer. I don't know why we call them French, tho. I hear that the French call them "pome fritz". (Not sure of the spelling.)

I call soda "pop". And I leave the u out of many words, as my spell checker doesn't like it there..My teacher in school years ago thought it terrible to put an extra u in it.

To go on with things, I hear that you folks call a stove a "cooker" and call all vacuum cleaners "Hoovers" even if they're made by a different company?

So, I'd guess you speak English, and I speak American.

Viva la difference!

Our language evolves. We call them fries because, to us, they are french fries. I don't call "fizzy pop" soda..I call it pop. That's a regional thing...different parts of the country call it different things. I don't call potato chips "crisps", and I've never met anyone who does. There is a brand name of crackers named crisps though.

I don't like to abuse the letter "u" by using it too much so I leave it out of words like color and behavior. ;o)

We do things our own way.

I am as American as apple pie, from the south. Never called fries chips. We call it fried potatoes.
Everything in a bottle that fizzies is a coke
Potatoes chips are never called crisps. Don't know what in the hell those are.
Fritos are fritos!
Frito pie is corn chips with chili beans on top and top it off with graded cheese. Can't have a fair without funnel cake and frito pie. Where are you from anyway?

it is literally because they are nob heads. As most of the answers above mine show! ENGLISH language.... The only reason i can think of is because someone famously spelt something wrong probably their own name, lets face it he was american, and rather than admit their mistakes they probably said "i meant to do that, it is a new language"

nob heads.
