I've got a Westinghouse 42" LCD monitor (I know Westinghouse makes washers and stoves) and Comcast digital cable with their DVR. I am using the HDMI cable to connect my DVR to my monitor. Recently I have been having a pixelating, or skipping and blotchy picture with skipping and very fast repeating of small amounts of sound. The cable guy has been out here a few times and of course, it never happens when he is here. I have an entry level HDMI cable. Will using a more expensive one like Monster Cable help to fix this?

NO A NEW HDMI WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. YOUR BOX IS BAD. YOU NEED TO TAKE IT TO THE LOCAL PAYMENT CENTER AND GET A NEW ONE. JUST TELL THEM IT DOESNT WORK. THEY WILL EXCHANGE IT. NO CHARGE.

Most likely it's not the HDMI cable. Although most electronic stores will try and get you to get monster cables and such a less expensive brand should not degrade the picture in that way.
First make sure the connection is tight fitting and secure.

Comcast DVR boxes has issues!!!! They skip and act up and comcast digital and HDTV signals are sketchy sometimes.

I have monster HDMI and I still have problems so it's not solely the cable. If you want to upgrade by all means go for it, but don't expect that to be the last of your cable problems. The comcast DVR is not very impressive to me.

I have the same damm problem. I have the monster cables, that has nothing to do with it. When this happens, call the cable company, ( we have Comcast ) , Chicago area, and the rep on the phone pings the dvr and restarts it. Then we have to turn off the TV and the Dvr for 15 minutes and then turn it back on. I am so sick of this crap. Love the picture but I am interested in looking for a different box, maybe a tivo. What you can do is record a show as well and save the show that does it and show it to the comcast tech, ask for a comcast tech not a hired contracter, they will waste your time, they just see it and say that you have a problem and leave, at least the ones I had here did that, I am sure there are some good ones, but don't waste your time. You have the right to put in your request!. I do believe it is their signal or DVR. I am however going to take this dvr to the compny and demand a new one in the packaging, not a used one. I am so sick of this, it happened allot tonight! One time our Tv went totally out, all pixeled to the max! I called and the girl and she pinged the DVR over the phone, just recycled it and then asked to turn off the TV and DVR and wait 15 minutes and turn it back on, and it was working again. It did improve but here we are a week later and it is bad again, the loss of sound and the lack of control through the remote. We had to turn it off and on again for awhile and really tonight, it is bad. If this happens during the Superbowl, ohhh, I just hope it don't. One of the guys that was sent here to install the TV and surround says that he used to work for direct TV and he says the picture is better. I do have a hard time believing this but he says your picture is only as good as the installer, so I still am not sure what I am going to do yet. Good Luck to you too. Ask for a new DVR box yourself too, and they should credit your days that you have problems. But you got to get on the phone and report it. They will tell you to unplug all the cvables and replug them, that is all bull crap, all ours are and have been tight. I do check them so check yours too and tell her or him on the phone you just did that before calling.

hi,

no do not be fooled with the name"monster cable" you will pay over 100 dollars for cables that the techs have on there truck for free, the "tiling" issue your having is cause by a signal issue to that box which that line is on. you may have a bad fitting behind the wall or not enough signal coming to that line, you may need a amplifier, also be aware that most installs by the techs are done with component lines, hdmi is still is progress and is not perfected, i would recommend component lines from the tech, so its a fitting bad splitter etc, its a signal issue

hope this helps

First, I would UNPLUG the AC cord from the box for 5 minutes to reset the box's computer.... THEN I would wait after plugging it back in to see if the INFO they send appears on your TV set... I'd give it about 24 hours, because it may take 24 hours to download the information on the HD stations. If it doesn't work at that time, then contact your cable company and tell them what's going on...you may need a different box that works 100%.
