What if supporters of a popular American president began a movement to make a president king? In what ways does this go against the American governmental system? Why would most people not support the movement? What connotations does kingship have tha presidency does not?

I would appreciate your feedback because I am really confused on the whole idea. My friend asked me about it, and well, now I am pondering upon the question. Thankyou, and I appreciate it.

The idea behind a monarchistic government is absolute authority, as given by the idea of divine right.

The idea behind a representative democracy is that the citizenry decide, through their representatives, how they are governed.

The American idea of government is that the citizenry choose their President (Not their 'ruler', as a King would be...Subtle, but distinct difference).

If you are still in school, I would recommend asking this question of your school's US Government teacher, for a much more detailed answer.

Well, first of all, you have two types of democracies, a constitutional monarchy and a republic. The former is seen in countries such as Britain, Sweden, and Japan. The latter is seen in countries such as South Korea and the US. The real definition of a republic is rule by the people, which undercuts the notion of one King or Queen ruling the country. With the US constitution, for example, there is no allowance for the ascension of one person above the polity. Said more generally, it is generally the governing doctine of a respective country that either allows or disallows of despotism. However, as you see in more developing and unstable countries, a powerful faction can assert control over the system, rewrite the doctrine and assume control of the nation. With the US, the every 4 year hand over of power is so entrenched and accepted, it is kind of impossible to see any uprising.

General George Washington turned down the opportunity of becoming a King. He opted for being our first President and established a precedent which we have followed since he took office. The system which we have, may not be perfect, but is sure is better than having a Monarch. Can you imagine how much worse America would be if George W. Bush was our King for life?

There are Constitutional Monarchies in the world that seem to work pretty well. You have to remember that when our country claimed independance, it was because we were trying to get away from the excessive powers that the king of England was using over the colonies. There was no way that a monarchy would have been established here in the US.

Read the founding documents of this country! The reason we fought a war fo independence from "Engalnd" was because we wanted out from under the totalitarian rule of a "king".

Too many people fought and died to make sure you and I NEVER have to bow to another human being.

If that isn't good enough for you, the Constitution forbids titles of nobility either from the federal government or lower levels.

I surely have too lots of a existence to examine all that. analyzing the statement of Independence is a competent place to commence looking your question's answer. while the government will become treasonous to its people and ignores the petitions of the overpowering majority, and ceases to symbolize the folk the way the folk prefer to be represented, then a revolution is justified and required. We already see a number of that immediately - the government disregarded the final public's wills while they surpassed the wellness care bill, they promised to get us out of conflict, yet they have not yet - so as that they are if truth be told killing their very own people over no longer something, and the politicians in congress declare to symbolize as they bypass costs in the back of closed doors. in the event that they proceed this for yet another 6 years(provide or take some, enable obama and the different idiots of the government go away workplace,...), then a revolution could happen.
