Yes. This happened to me when I was 12. My best friend moved to St. Louis and I was left in MS. We maintained the friendship for a few years probably till I was 18 or 19. Unfortunately we were both busy with school & college and we just didn't try to maintain it futher. It would have helped if we got to see each other again. It's hard to go that many years and people change so much. I encourage you to try and keep the friendship. I wish we both would have tried harder. :) Good luck!

My heart goes out to you! It is always sad to have someone disappear from our lives...but there is always the Internet!! Get a web cam (if you don't already have one) and IM daily. You will make new friends, just as she will. When I was a kid, we had no Internet and phone calls were prohibitively expensive. I had to simply accept the fact that my best friend moved two thousand miles away! Good luck to you, and be glad you live in the 21st century!

It happens but just because she's moving doesn't mean you can't keep in touch. Make a plan to visit and talk as often as you can to maintain the friendship across the distance.
