Think of it as a Home Depo in smaller scale + clothing, boots, etc.

They kept records with ledger books, wrote out paper receipts. Since they didn't have cash registers or computers, they had to write everything down.

How detailed do you want to go? Things didn't come prepackaged so they had to weigh and measure out what they were selling in most cases.
